5 Pillars of Islam in English

Bismillahi Rahman Raheem (بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم).

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wabarakathuhu.

What is Islam?

Definition of Islam is “Submitting to the will of Allah (the only true god who deserves to be worshiped) and obeying his laws.” It has five pillars and they are mentioned below.

Here are the 5 Pillars of Islam

1. Shahadah (Faith)

Shahadah in Arabic:

“أشهد أن لا اله إلا الله وأشهد أن مَمداً رسول الله”

Shahada Meaning in English:

“I testify that none has the right to be worshiped except Allah, and that Mohammed is the messenger of Allah.”

2. Salah (Prayer)

Salah, prayer, is the second pillar. The Islamic faith is based on the belief that individuals have a direct relationship with God. Salah can he performed alone; it is meritorious to perform it with another or with a group. It is permissible to pray at home, at work, or even outdoors; however it is recommended that Muslims perform salah in a mosque.

3. Fasting (Ramdan Month)

The third pillar of Islam is Siyam (fasting) in the month of Ramadan

4. Zakat (Giving)

Zakat is an obligatory sadaqah (charity) due on wealth; given under certain conditions to specific persons at a specific time. Zakat, almsgiving, is the fourth pillar. Social responsibility is considered part of one’s service to God; the obligatory act of zakat enshrines this duty.

4. Hajj (pilgrimage)

The fifth pillar of Islam is Making Hajj (Pilgrimage) to Makkah. Pilgrimage to the house is a duty mankind owes to Allah, those who are able to make the journey; but if they deny faith, Allah is not in need of any of his creations)

May Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) accept all our good deeds and help us in the cause, forgive our mistakes and make us amongst the Muntaqeen & By His Mercy make us all Inhabitants of Jannah. Ameen ya rabbal’alameen.

Jazakkallahu khairan!
